PXI PLATFORMS :- PXI is the industry’s leading platform for Test, Measurement and Control. With a large selection of chassis, controllers, and timing and synchronization and a large number of modules, you can address virtually any engineering challenge. PXI is a rugged PC-based platform for measurement and automation systems. PXI combines PCI electrical-bus features with the modular, Eurocard packaging of CompactPCI and then adds specialized synchronization buses and key software features. PXI is both a high-performance and low-cost deployment platform for applications such as manufacturing test, military and aerospace, machine monitoring, automotive, and industrial test. Developed in 1997 and launched in 1998, PXI is an open industry standard governed by the PXI Systems Alliance (PXISA), a group of more than 70 companies chartered to promote the PXI standard, ensure interoperability, and maintain the PXI specification. National Instruments is the creator and leading provider of PXI, the modular instrumentation standard with more than 1,500 products from more than 70 vendors.

Instrument Control – GPIB
GPIB (IEEE 488) hardware and software offer three key benefits - improved performance, high reliability, and increased productivity - that can help you save time and money throughout the life of your instrument control system from development through production and maintenance. The original GPIB was developed in the late 1960s by Hewlett-Packard (where it is called the HP-IB) to connect and control programmable instruments that Hewlett-Packard manufactured. With the introduction of digital controllers and programmable test equipment, the need arose for a standard, high-speed interface for communication between instruments and controllers from various vendors. In 1975, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) published ANSI/IEEE Standard 488-1975, IEEE Standard Digital Interface for Programmable Instrumentation, which contained the electrical, mechanical, and functional specifications of an interfacing system. The original IEEE 488-1975 was revised in 1978, primarily for editorial clarification and addendum. This bus is now used worldwide and is known by three names:
  • General Purpose Interface Bus (GPIB)
  • Hewlett-Packard Interface Bus (HP-IB)
  • IEEE 488 Bus

Data Acquisition Hardware and software applications Data acquisition (DAQ) is the process of measuring an electrical or physical phenomenon such as voltage, current, temperature, pressure, or sound with a computer. A DAQ system consists of sensors, DAQ measurement hardware, and a computer with programmable software. Compared to traditional measurement systems, PC-based DAQ systems exploit the processing power, productivity, display, and connectivity capabilities of industry-standard computers providing a more powerful, flexible, and cost-effective measurement solution.
